Raw Shilajit Powder

  • Resin is dried, ground, and sold as-is — whatever that deposit produced.
  • Labels show “500 mg Shilajit” — but fulvic and humic content varies wildly by source and processing, so two products with the same Shilajit weight deliver very different amounts of the active compounds (Stohs, 2014).
  • The fulvic and humic compounds are what actually drive Shilajit's effects — present in Shilajit only incidentally, in whatever ratio the deposit contains (Bhattacharyya et al., 2009; Visser, 1993; Saikia et al., 2021).

Standardized Shilajit Extract

  • A few brands attempt to standardize fulvic and humic content to a percentage.
  • Better than raw powder on consistency — but Shilajit is a geological rock exudate that naturally concentrates whatever the rocks contain, including heavy metals.

Standardization & source-purity questions

Shilajit is a geological rock exudate — the resinous material that seeps from mountain rock faces in ranges like the Himalayas, Altai, and Tibet. Whatever fulvic and humic compounds ended up in that particular rock bed, in that particular ratio, is what that deposit produces (Bhattacharyya et al., 2009). Composition varies harvest to harvest, region to region, and even within the same deposit (Stohs, 2014). Two products labeled “500 mg Shilajit” can therefore deliver very different amounts of the active compounds. The label reports the rock — it does not report the fulvic and humic content in that rock.
Almost always, the raw Shilajit weight. Shilajit labels report mg of raw material, and the fulvic and humic content inside that raw material floats with whatever the source deposit contains (Stohs, 2014). A few brands attempt to standardize fulvic and humic to a percentage on a Shilajit base — better, but still a rock-derived material.
